We gave out Buckwheat seeds at the Seedy Sunday on April 15th at the Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market.
We heard that bees were having a hard time and we decided to try to help out.
Bees are dying in large numbers due to 'Colony Collapse Disorder' and that matters because without them we could lose 30% of the foods we eat, including almonds, blueberries, pumpkins and apples.
The simplest thing any of us can do to help is create 'bee-havens', by planting easy to grow flowering plants that provide bees with nectar. For example, buckwheat.
You don't have to be a bee-keeper to help! You just need a patch of earth or a planter in your back yard, school yard etc.
We provide the seeds for the buckwheat, you plant it following our simple instructions and the bees, butterflies etc will thank you for it!
